Robin Van Persie has revealed what he suffered from opposition supporters during his spell at Arsenal and Manchester United.

According to him, he was constantly getting harassed by opposition fans when playing an away match.

Van Persie revealed that the harsh treatment he received from opposition fans only stopped when he returned to boyhood club Feyenoord.

The Dutchman left the English Premier League in 2015 to join Turkish side Fenerbahce before moving to Feyenoord.

"All in all, I felt that abuse for all of the 11 years I played in England.

"The approach from other fans was a tough thing.

"In fact, when I returned to Holland last year, I forgot what it was like to receive applause in other stadiums.

"My away matches feel almost comfortable now. That is a beautiful experience."

Robin van Persie has a total of 261 goals at club level during his career, and has already netted seven times for Feyenoord this season.

"When I have to stop? That is probably at the end of this season," Van Persie said.

"I will be 36 years old and will have been a professional for 18 years. From the age of five, I've only been involved in football."
